How cool would it have been if Superman fought this guy at the end of Smallville instead of the CGI planet?
That’s the only reason I tuned in to watch the series finale, so I could see Darkseid.
Alas, the only Darkseid I’ve got is my figure from Kenner’s Super Powers collection.
When I was a kid I only had a handful of superhero comics (I mostly read G.I. Joe) so I didn’t know anything about Darkseid when my parents bought him for me.
His action feature was a rock-em sock-em arm movement that was activated when you squeezed his legs. It was good for brawlin!
The figure’s eyes also lit up in red thanks to some colored plastic in the top of his head. It’s supposed to simulate Darkseid’s Omega Beam, which I later learned can pretty much disintegrate anything it hits.
That’s a pretty powerful weapon to put in an action figure. I’m kinda lucky I didn’t know the scope of Darkseid’s power when I was a kid, because it would have made for some short adventures.
Even though he had the Omega Beam, my Darkseid figure was handicapped by the fact that he lost his left arm in yet another freezing experiment.
Like The Flash, Darkseid must have become trapped in a cup of water and locked in the freezer for some time. I’m sure it was Superman who did it, probably because he thought his heat vision could free Darkseid after the villain had learned his lesson.
Unfortunately, the real world equivalent of Superman’s heat vision was me smashing the ice on the ground, and Darkseid’s arm detached itself from the rest of his body.
Poor guy.
The Super Powers series continues Sunday with another hero that appeared onSmallville and was close to having his own series.
Fans can probably guess who I’m talking about.
